Tribute Project

These work came about after my researching the effect of trauma on community  as part of a potential PHD proposal.

A common response to a disaster regardless of cause is for people to mark a place, people create 'tribute mountains' of flowers.

This a a form of shared solidarity, of community, a place to reflect and show support, for people to carry the 'rage and sadness'

I paint these flower mountains, the project is evolving,  I want these works to shimmer, my initial inspiration was Rarotongan  Tivaevae quilts, but the painting has changed, its looser, my connection with an idea which was political is now aesthetic

The Tribute works are like a game of Tetras where your eye climbs up and over the work.

I have decided to 'wrap' the works in text this then moves the works back into a graphic/banner mode and allows me to make social comment  in reference to the intended audience.

As these are my own response to the situation I am not so concerned with the drawing of the language just that it fits aesthetically with the work
